NOVA SCOTIA

Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County and Richmond County. “An intense low pressure system is expected to track southeast of Nova Scotia tonight and Friday. This low pressure system will tap into tropical moisture today as it intensifies and tracks northeastward towards Atlantic Canada. Latest models indicate the low tracking slightly farther west bringing periods of heavy rain and strong winds to areas of eastern Nova Scotia. Environment Canada meteorologists will continue to keep a close eye on this system as is develops and approaches the region.”

NEWFOUNDLAND / LABRADOR

Rainfall Warning in effect via Environment Canada starting late this evening and into Saturday morning. “Similar storms in the past have caused: – hazardous driving conditions from water pooling on roadways – elevated water levels in creeks and streams – scattered utility outages – delays and cancellations of ferry services Remarks: An intensifying low pressure system approaching Newfoundland from the southwest will give rain at times heavy tonight and Friday. The rain will taper to showers and then end on Saturday morning. The rain will be accompanied by strong northeasterly winds, especially on Friday and Friday night. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.”
