ALBERTA

Alberta 511 advises:

Access through Jasper National Park via Highway 16 is limited to commercial vehicles ONLY, and during the following time intervals.

  • 5:00 am – 7:00 am MDT
  • 10:00 am – 5:00 pm MDT
  • 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm MDT

Commercial vehicles are defined as trucks, tractors, trailers, or any combination thereof, with a registered gross vehicle weight exceeding 11,794 kilograms. Pilot vehicles are permitted passage with approved over dimensional loads.

The RCMP is controlling access to the park at checkpoints along Highway 16 in both directions. Drivers must stop and identify themselves at the checkpoints before proceeding.

All other traffic: Highway 16, Highway 93N and Highway 93A within Jasper National Park remain CLOSED due to wildfire. Westbound motorists are advised to detour using Highway 40 northbound through Grande Prairie, or use Highway 43. Additionally, a detour is available via Highway 22 south from Highway 16. Alternately, motorists are able to travel to and from British Columbia via Highway 1 through Banff National Park. Highway 93 is closed north of Saskatchewan River Crossing. Traffic accessing Highway 93N from Highway 11, west of Nordegg, must head south via Lake Louise.

Highway 734 between the Ram Falls Airport and Township Road 383A, south of Nordegg, CLOSED due to wildfire. A detour is not available.
