ALBERTA

WILDFIRE ROAD CLOSURES CONTINUE.

A wildfire is burning approximately 10km north of Highway 58. Garden River, John D’Or Prairie and Fox Lake are under evacuation order. Highway 58 is CLOSED at Range Road 80, near John D’Or Prairie access. RCMP are restricting access to the area with the exception of water trucks and emergency personnel. Westbound Highway 58 remains open for evacuees leaving the area. Speed is reduced to 60 km/h due to poor visibility from smoke and dust. Access through Jasper National Park via Highway 16 is open only to commercial vehicles for the following time windows below.

Commercial vehicles are defined as trucks, tractors, trailers, or any combination thereof, with a registered gross vehicle weight exceeding 11,794 kilograms.

To ensure safety, access is limited to the following times (all times in mountain standard time):

  • 5:00 am – 7:00 am MDT
  • 10:00 am – 5:00 pm MDT
  • 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm MDT

The RCMP is controlling access within the Park at staffed checkpoints on Highway 16 in both directions. Drivers must stop and identify themselves at the checkpoints before proceeding.

All traffic: Highway 16, Highway 93N and Highway 93A within Jasper National Park are CLOSED due to wildfire. Westbound motorists are advised to detour using Highway 40 northbound through Grande Prairie or Highway 43. Alternately, motorists are able to travel to and from British Columbia via Highway 1 through Banff National Park. Highway 93 is CLOSED just north of Saskatchewan River Crossing. Traffic accessing Highway 93N from Highway 11, west of Nordegg, must head south via Lake Louise. An Evacuation Order is in place at this time for Jasper National Park and Jasper townsite.

Highway 734 from Highway 752 (SW of Rocky Mountain House) to Highway 11 (Nordegg) – Closed due to wildfire. Avoid the area. No detour is available.

NEWFOUNDLAND / LABRADOR

Rainfall Warning issued by ECC for Great Northern Peninsula. Rain, at times heavy, continues. Locations: Great Northern Peninsula. Additional rainfall: 10 to 15 mm, with locally higher amounts possible. Time span: until midday.  Localized flooding possible.
