Canadian Transit & Weather Updates – August 16, 2024

BRITISH COLUMBIA / ALBERTA

The Weather Network has advised – “Stormy conditions are set to make another appearance across the region Friday, bringing scattered activity and potentially severe conditions near the Foothills. From south to north of Calgary, storms may bring hail up to 2 cm, strong wind gusts, and localized heavy downpours, especially in slow-moving cells. BC – Storms will be fairly widespread in the interior and eastern regions compared to the more isolated storms the past couple of days. Some storms could bring some locally heavy rain.”

QUEBEC

Travel delays may continue in southern regions due to recent flooding causing road washouts and road erosion.

ALBERTA

Alberta511 advises – “Eastbound/Westbound Highway 16 – OPEN – to all traffic between the hours of 7:00am to 9:00pm MT, daily. Motorists MUST proceed directly through the park with NO stopping. Services such as fuel, food, restrooms are unavailable and should be a consideration before travelling through the park. Obey all signs and posted speed limits as there is still ongoing fire suppression activities. Be prepared for changes in visibility. Highway may close on short notice and will be closed 9:00pm to 7:00 am MT, daily. As of Friday, 7:00am, August 16, residents can come in to Jasper with their Resident Re-entry Guide. If you need to leave Jasper after 9:00 pm you will be able to, however between 9:00 pm and 7:00 am you will not be able to re-enter Jasper. Anyone trying to enter town without a Resident Re-entry Guide will be stopped by RCMP and directed to return to Highway 16.”
