Rainfall Warning continues for the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas’ and St. John’s & vicinity today – ECC advises “A long episode of rain, at times heavy, is expected. Locations: Burin and southern Avalon Peninsulas. Additional rainfall (Today and tonight): 35 to 55 mm, except locally 75 mm or more in areas of heaviest rain. Time span: until tonight. Remarks: 25 to 65 mm of rain has already fallen yesterday and last night with rainfall rates of 10 to 15 mm per hour being observed at times along parts of the south coast. These heavy rainfall rates are expected to continue on and off throughout the event. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.”
