“On August 22, the Minister of Labour announced that he has directed the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to assist the parties in settling the outstanding terms of their collective agreement by imposing final binding arbitration.
As CN awaits the formal order from the CIRB, the Company has proactively decided to end its lockout and immediately initiate its recovery plan to get goods moving again.
While we are satisfied that this labour conflict has ended and that we can get back to what we do best, powering the economy safely and sustainably, we’re disappointed that a negotiated deal could not be achieved at the bargaining table despite our best efforts.
We expect activities in Canada to progressively resume. Embargoes will remain in place while we work through our recovery plan to ensure a safe and orderly start-up of our network.”

Environment Canada has issued the following Special Weather Statement for  southern BC this evening.

“Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Tonight into Saturday. 20 to 30 mm except 40 mm in heaviest rain. A low pressure system currently off the Oregon Coast will move inland today then track across southern BC this evening. Rain, at times heavy, will begin this evening then taper off to a few showers on Saturday afternoon. Enhanced risk of landslides in vulnerable areas, particularly those affected by recent wildfires (burn scars). The combination of heavy rainfall and potentially unstable soils could trigger landslides or debris flows, posing potential hazards to public safety, infrastructure and natural landscapes. The anticipated high precipitation rates over a short duration could lead to water pooling in areas with poor drainage, exacerbating localized flooding concerns.”
